15,200+Personal-injury claims pending in the federal PFAS/AFFF litigation (MDL 2873, South Carolina)
1.2M+Long Islanders who depend on groundwater alone for their drinking water
PFAS-Linked Conditions Recognized in the Litigation
The litigation has been narrowed to six conditions with the strongest scientific link to PFAS exposure:
- Kidney cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Liver cancer
- Thyroid disease (including hypothyroidism)
- Ulcerative colitis
You May Qualify If…
- You were diagnosed with one of the recognized PFAS-linked conditions listed here
- Your diagnosis followed a period of PFAS exposure — through contaminated drinking water or on the job
- You lived or worked in a Long Island community where PFAS was detected in the water (Nassau or Suffolk), or
- You were exposed at work as a firefighter, military service member, or airport or industrial worker who handled firefighting foam (AFFF)
- Time limits can apply to these claims, so it is worth speaking with an attorney promptly to learn where you stand
If You Have Kidney, Testicular, Thyroid, or Liver Cancer, Thyroid Disease, or Ulcerative Colitis, You May Have a Case
Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with a serious illness after years of drinking tap water on Long Island? You may have been exposed to dangerous PFAS chemicals—also known as “forever chemicals”—recently discovered in several Long Island water supplies.
At Rudolph F.X. Migliore, P.C., our legal team is now accepting PFAS exposure cases from residents of Nassau and Suffolk Counties. If you’ve been diagnosed with:
- Kidney cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Liver cancer
- Thyroid disease (including hypothyroidism)
- Ulcerative colitis
You may be eligible to file a lawsuit and pursue financial compensation.
What Are PFAS?
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are man-made chemicals used in a wide range of industrial and household products, including firefighting foam, non-stick cookware, stain-resistant fabrics, and food packaging. These chemicals are known for their resistance to water and heat—but they are also toxic and do not break down in the environment or human body.
Scientific studies have linked long-term PFAS exposure to multiple forms of cancer and other serious health issues.
PFAS in Long Island Water Supplies
Long Island sits on top of its water. Nassau and Suffolk draw their drinking water entirely from underground aquifers, with no reservoirs or imported supply to dilute what reaches the tap, so contamination that seeps into the groundwater has an outsized and lasting reach. Decades of aerospace, defense, and industrial activity left their mark: the former Grumman and Navy site in Bethpage is among the best-known sources, with an underground plume that has spread through the aquifer over many years, and other sites across the region have contributed as well.
A 2025 analysis by the Environmental Working Group and Citizens Campaign for the Environment reported that roughly 189 New York water systems, most of them serving Long Island, had detected elevated PFAS, affecting hundreds of thousands of residents across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency set its first national drinking-water limits for several PFAS chemicals in 2024, and New York had already adopted its own limits for PFOA and PFOS in 2020; many Long Island water districts have since installed treatment systems to filter these chemicals out.
We are investigating claims for residents who drank contaminated water for years without warning, and we pursue the manufacturers that put these chemicals into the environment.
Didn’t work directly with firefighting foam? You may still have a claim. For many Long Islanders, years of PFAS in the drinking water is the exposure that matters.
Two Ways Long Islanders Were Exposed
PFAS reaches people here through two main routes. The first is drinking water: for residents of affected Nassau and Suffolk communities, years of ordinary tap water carried these chemicals into the body long before testing revealed the problem. The second is on the job. Firefighters, military service members, and airport and industrial workers handled aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) directly, often without protection and without being told it was dangerous.
